Whether it be the beautiful Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh or the charming yet ambiguous Girl Before a Mirror by Picasso, art is a visual phenomenon from the inner human. From primitive cave paintings from hundreds of thousands of years ago to modern street art, humans have had the perpetual desire to immerse themselves in a world of beauty. Street art, with its countless forms, however, is besmirched with an unjust interpretation. Owing to its illegal nature and common connection to actual vandalism, some eyebrows are raised on whether street art is actual art that should be appreciated among other forms. However, street art contains many elements in traditional art that should make it worthy of being held in the same light as the works of Van Gogh or Picasso as it fits into humanity’s desire for beauty and creation. Thus, street art fits into the same definition as traditional art because of its connection to humanity’s desires.
